Tagging your garbage

The tag must be placed in a manner which is clearly visible by the collection driver and operator.

The Township of Russell is maintaining the tag system for garbage pick up. We supply 52 tags for a single-family dwelling and 104 tags for a business. The tags are sent by regular mail in December. A tag is required for each bag, item or container you place at the curb for pick up. Additional tags can be purchased at the municipal office or at any branch of the municipal library at the cost of $2.00 each.

Please take notice that the 2011 tags are non-refundable, but can be used up to December 31, 2012. Furthermore, 5 garbage tags for the year 2011 or 2012 can be exchanged for one large item tag.

Curbside Exchange Day

Mark your calendar!  May 12 and October 20, 2012 - BETWEEN 8AM – 5PM
The Township of Russell in cooperation with the Environmental Advisory Committee, invite all residents to clean-up their attics and recycle their old stuff! One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!

IT’S EASY!

  • Sort and set all your treasures on the curbside (CDs, books, old furniture, small appliances, kitchen gadgets, unwanted gifts, etc.);

  • Identify them as “FREE” for the treasure hunters;
  • At the end of the day, bring any uncollected items back to your home.

DON’T FORGET…

  • Respect other people’s property; don’t walk on people’s lawns and gardens.
  • Take only the treasures marked free at the curb.
  • Don’t discard previously picked-up treasures on another person’s lawn.

HAPPY TREASURE HUNTING!

We invite you to take part in our effort to clean up our community by picking up the waste left from this winter. Pick up on your property and why not your neighborhood! You want to do more? Why not walk to your favorite park and tidy it up too! Deposit your garbage bags (no tags required!) on the side of the road, at an intersection. The bags will be collected during the follwing week. The next Spring cleaning weekend will take place on April 28 2012.

Recycle your batteries!National Cell Phone & Rechargeable Battery Recycling Program

The Township of Russell has joined a national program called Call2Recycle!™ that helps residents conveniently recycle their cell phones and portable rechargeable batteries.

The program provides residents with an easy way to recycle their old cell phones and used rechargeable batteries. Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion), and Small Sealed Lead* (Pb) are commonly found in cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, cordless power tools, two-way radios, camcorders, remote control toys, and a variety of other portable electronic products. When the battery can no longer hold a charge, it can and should be recycled.

The average cell phone user has a total of 5 cordless electronic products in their possession. Consumers can simply drop off their used rechargeable battery and old cell phone at the participating location nearest them, and it will be collected for recycling.

Township of Russell are helping to make cell phone and rechargeable battery recycling a reality, and that’s great for the environment.

The Call2Recycle™ program has various recycling plans that collect old cell phones and used rechargeable batteries from retailers, businesses, communities, and public agencies.

*Portable rechargeable batteries weighing less than 2 lbs/1 Kg.

Drop-off locations:

  1. Township of Russell office, 717 Notre-Dame, Embrun
