Waste Collection Cancelled January 17, 2022 Due to Winter Storm

There will be no curbside garbage or recycling collection today, Monday, January 17, 2021. Collection will remain as scheduled for the rest of the week. Next Monday, January 24, 2021, two bags of garbage will be allowed to compensate for today’s cancelled collection, with no tag needed for the second bag.
This cancellation is for the safety of residents and collection crews during the major winter storm.
COVID-19: Town Hall and Municipal Facilities Closed Due to Province’s Omicron Restrictions

As of Wednesday, January 5, 2022, Town Hall and our satellite offices are closed to the public until further notice. In-person services are through appointment only. Staff are available by phone and email.
Indoor recreation facilities including the sports dome, arenas, and community centres, are closed to the public until further notice.
Outdoor rinks are not yet open for the winter season.

Tree Removal Near Embrun Roundabout

Starting the week of December 20th, residents may see some tree removal activity on the small municipal lot of greenspace next to the roundabout in Embrun. This is a former section of the recreation trail.
A contractor will perform the work, which includes removing trees and notching stumps, over the next few weeks.

Richard Godin has been appointed as the interim Chief Administrative Officer for the Township of Russell effective January 5, 2022.

New Speed Humps on Centenaire Street and King Street

There are now speed humps on Centenaire Street and King Street! As part of the Township 2018-2022’s Strategic Plan, we are reviewing pedestrian safety. At the October 4, 2021 Council Meeting, Council proclaimed October 2021 as Breast Cancer Awareness month in the Township of Russell. The Breast Cancer flag will be raised at the Town Hall from October 5 to 31, 2021. At this time, flags are at half-mast to mourn the recent discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves near former residential schools across the country.
