No Mow May Begins May 1, 2021
On March 22nd, 2021, Holder Tractors requested a permission to support our local bee population by participating in the No-Mow-May project. This entails not cutting the grass for the month of May.
According to Alana Pindar, a pollinator expert from the University of Guelph, it is vital for many flowers that we perceive as weeds, to be around when bees emerge from their nests in May.
Council approved the request and directed our Public Safety and Enforcement Officers, as a pilot project, not to enforce section 2(e) of the Clean Yard Bylaw 88-2012 for the month of May 2021.
Observations and issues be shared with the Environmental Committee so that an update report about the future of this pilot project be presented to Council at a later time.
The Parks and Recreation Department have decided to participate in this pilot project to support our local bee population. The grass in the Jean-Guy Lapointe Park in Embrun and in a section of the Hanover Park in Russell will not be cut during the month of May.
