PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
Embrun (Ontario), August 29th, 2025 – Centre Novas – CALACS francophone de Prescott-Russell is proud to invite the public to the 18th Women’s March – “Take Back the Night”, taking place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Embrun.
This annual event, part of an international movement, seeks to raise awareness about violence against women, particularly sexual assault. The march is a powerful moment of solidarity, mobilization, and advocacy for the right of women and girls to walk freely and safely, day or night.
- Starting point: Camille Piché Community Centre, 8 Blais Street, Embrun, Ontario
- Welcome: 6:00 p.m.
- March begins: 6:30 p.m.
- After the march: Refreshments and door prizes generously provided by local businesses
The event is organized in partnership with the Township of Russell and in collaboration with several community allies: Maison Interlude House, United Way East Ontario, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Réseau des Femmes Immigrantes Francophones (RéFIF-PR), Leadership Féminin de Prescott-Russell (LFPR), and the Prescott-Russell Coalition to End Violence Towards Women.
“Our Township is proud to host this year’s ‘Take Back the Night’ walk. This important event gives us, as a community, the opportunity to stand together and say no to violence against women and girls, and to reaffirm that everyone has the right to live in safety and with respect. We call on all residents to join us in large numbers on September 17 to send a clear message that here in Russell Township, violence against women and girls has no place,” shared Mike Tarnowski, Township of Russell Mayor.
“Too often, the greatest danger for women and girls is not on the streets, but in their own homes and everyday environments. Survivors of sexual and gender-based violence live with this reality daily. By marching together, we shine a light on these truths, break the silence, and affirm that women have the right to safety, freedom, and dignity everywhere,” says Martine Lanthier, Executive director of Centre Novas.
The Centre Novas warmly invites citizens, families, partners, and organizations to join this meaningful gathering of hope and change.
