Garbage and Recycling Information
Garbage Collection |
Garbage is collected weekly. Each household is allowed one free garbage bag per collection. Place your garbage at the curb before 7:00a.m. Your garbage and recycling bins need Garbage bags must be less than 50 lbs. each (including weight of the garbage can). Each extra garbage bag must have an easily seen holographic garbage tag. These tags can be purchased from one of our retailers and never expire. Retailers include:
Do not mix recyclable material into your garbage. When there is a statutory holiday, your collection may be delayed by one day. See the calendar for details. If you are a tenant in a multi unit property, please ask your landlord for your 52 garbage tags for the year. |
Recycling Collection |
Recycling is collected weekly. It alternates every week between a Grey Bin and a Blue Bin, and is collected on the same day as your garbage. There is no limit to the amount of recycling. Do not put your items in a bag (clear, blue, or other). Place your recycling at the curb before 7:00a.m. Grey Bin is for fibers only.
Blue Bin is for plastic, metal and glass only.

New Recycling Bins
Need to Replace Your Recycling Bins? |
Regular Square Sized BinsIf you have damaged recycling bins, you can replace them free of charge at the main reception desk at Town Hall (717 Notre Dame Street, Embrun). You will need to bring in your damaged bin to receive a new one. The broken or damaged bin must be identified 'CANTON RUSSELL TOWNSHIP' to be replaced at no cost. You can purchase additional recycling bins for $10.00 each. |
Are You a New Resident? |
If you are a new resident, come to the main reception desk at Town Hall (717 Notre Dame Street, Embrun) to pick up your complimentary recycling bins. |
Report a Missed Collection
If your waste was at the curb before 7:00 a.m., met the Solid Waste By-Law requirements, and was not picked up, please contact our Infrastructure Department.
Please note if you put your waste out after 7:00 a.m. or your waste has a sticker attached, the contractor will not return to collect your items.
Multi-Unit Residences
Property owners / landlords receive a series of 52 tags per unit, apartment, or business they manage. We mail garbage tags for the coming year to landlords in December. Garbage tags are only valid from January 1 to December 31 of the written year.
Tenants, please get your garbage tags from your property owner or landlord.
Garbage tags must be affixed and visible on each bag on the day of pick-up.
Dumpsters
Township of Russell is not responsible for the collection service of waste dumpsters. It is the responsibility of the waste dumpster renter or owner to contact a contractor to arrange this service. Unless you own or rent a dumpster, you must use holographic garbage tags.
