Did you know some local hardware stores accept common hazardous waste at ANY time of the year? You don't need to wait until Hazardous Waste Day to get rid of items like paint, lightbulbs, and batteries.

Year-Round Drop Off Options

At any time during the year, visit these local hardware stores to dispose of your hazardous products:

  • Barry's Home Hardware (120 Craig St, Russell, ON) for residential paints and batteries;
  • Rona Embrun (755 Notre-Dame, Embrun ON) for residential paints and lightbulbs.

Restrictions may apply. Please call these locations before bringing your products.

For other locations throughout the year, visit Make the Drop and Product Care Recycling.

Special Collections for Hazardous Waste

The Hazardous Waste Day event on May 1st, 2021 is cancelled following the Province’s COVID-19 stay-at-home order in effect until May 6, 2021 to avoid mass gathering at the municipal garage. The next hazardous waste event is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th, 2021. To keep the two hazardous waste events budgeted by Council for 2021, there will be a 2-day event on October 15th and 16th 2021.

The Curbside Exchange Day on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 and the Large Item Collection on the week of April 19th, 2021 can continue as planned.

Questions can be directed to the Infrastructure Department at infrastructure@russell.ca or 613-443-1747.

Due to the popularity of the hazardous waste events, we may reach capacity before 2p.m. The Ministry of Environment prohibits us from accepting any drop-offs after 2p.m., even if there are still participants waiting in line with their products.

Take the opportunity to get rid of your hazardous waste items at one of our annual drop-off events. Specific dates are listed on our online event calendar or in our printable Waste Collection Calendar.

The drop-off event is hosted at the municipal garage, located at 851 Route 400 in Embrun from 8 a.m. to 2p..m.
