Daycare Coordinator at the St. Mother Teresa Daycare

Position Overview and Requirements:

The Parks and Recreation Department of the Township of Russell is currently seeking a motivated individual to fill the above-mentioned position.

Reporting to the daycare supervisor, the daycare coordinator implements educational activity programs that promote the overall development of the children in their care. He or she also ensures their health, safety, and well-being while performing various duties inherent to the position.

The coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards of care quality, in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, and the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education.

He or she is also responsible for managing and organizing the staff’s workload, supervising and monitoring the daycare center’s expenses, and participating in the preparation, monitoring, and analysis of the daycare center’s budget.

Skills, Competencies and Knowledge:

  • A post-secondary degree in early childhood education or a related field, or any combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • A post-secondary diploma in early childhood services, or any combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Member of the Order of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in personnel management.
  • Valid, clean criminal background check for the vulnerable sector (dated within the last six (6) months);
  • Current first aid certificate (CPR Level C).

Language Requirements

Excellent proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in both French and English.

Compensation

The salary, based on 35 hours a week, is between $64,508 and $80,399 per year and includes an excellent benefit package, a pension plan, as well as free access to the Sports Dome Training Centre.

Ice Program Coordinator

Position Overview and Requirements:

Reporting to the Recreational Programming Manager, the Ice Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of ice programs and facility bookings across all ice surfaces operated by the municipality, including the recreation complex. The role ensures safe, high-quality, inclusive, and financially sustainable services in compliance with municipal policies, industry standards, and applicable legislation. 

The Coordinator serves as a key liaison between the municipality, community sport organizations, and facility users, while providing leadership to staff and supporting efficient, customer-focused operations. 

Skills, Competencies and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Sport Management, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing and coordinating recreational activities and facilities (including ice rinks), including organizing programs, leagues, and events, as well as collaborating with community sports organizations.
  • Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • Required Certifications: Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Arena or recreation-related certifications (e.g., coaching, skate programs) considered an asset, Valid Class G driver’s licence (asset), Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector.
  • Strong knowledge of ice programming, arena operations, and recreation facility management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, organizations, agencies and user groups.
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • An understanding of municipal policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to efficiently use recreation management, task management, and municipal financial systems.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible schedules as required.

Language Requirements

Compensation

The salary, based on 35 hours a week, is set between $76,113 and $94,932 per year and includes an excellent benefit package, a pension plan, as well as free access to the Sports Dome Training Centre.

Building Official

Position Overview and Requirements:

Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, the candidate will be responsible for duties legislated under the Ontario Building Code Act including efficient delivery of building inspections, examination of building permit applications and plans and drawings and issuance of orders. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that buildings and their associated systems comply with the minimum standards for maintaining safety and well-being of consumers, the general public, property owners, and occupants.

Skills, Competencies and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline and/or combination of specialized training and experience.
  • Successful completion of provincially mandated “General Legal” and “House” qualifications with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Excellent working knowledge of the provincial acts and codes, and municipal by-laws is a must.
  • Work efficiently under time constraints as well as communicate in a professional manner.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.

Public Works Equipment Operator 

Position Overview and Requirements:

Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for operating heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, buildings, and other structures.

The Operator will be responsible for performing the following duties but is not limited to:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and loaders to excavate materials and to construct and maintain gravel and asphalt roads, parking lots, drainage systems, sidewalk and signage during construction and related activities;
  • Perform inspections of traffic and directional signage, bridges, drainage systems, and lighting infrastructure; report on conditions and recommend necessary repairs or improvements.
  • Operate equipment to repair, maintain, and resurface roads during construction and rehabilitation projects.
  • Perform snow removal and ice control on municipal roads and parking lots using appropriate equipment and materials.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Carry out manual labour tasks related to the maintenance and operation of roads, drainage systems, and other public works infrastructure

Skills, Competencies and Knowledge:

  • High school diploma;
  • At least three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment, including loading, unloading, and snow removal;
  • Ability to work variable or irregular schedules, including summer and winter periods, and be available 24/7 (on call) during winter maintenance and snow removal operations;
  • Reside within a 30-minute radius of the municipal garage to meet the minimum response time required during winter maintenance and snow removal operations;
  • Hold a valid Class DZ driver’s licence;
  • Have specialized training or have completed an apprenticeship program in heavy equipment operation, supported by ongoing training;
  • Certifications in winter road maintenance and/or the equivalent of snow school, as well as in road construction and/or road management, would be an asset;
  • Experience or knowledge in mechanics and welding is an asset.

Language Requirements

Proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in both French and English.

The salary, based on 40 hours a week, is set between $62,491 and $77,905 per year and includes an excellent benefit package, a pension plan, as well as free access to the Sports Dome Training Centre
