Building Department - Summer Student (May to August)

Under the supervision of the Chief Building Official, the incumbent will provide administrative support to the Building Department and perform various clerical tasks. They will be responsible for reviewing construction plans, conducting site inspections, preparing inspection reports and notices of violation, and filing general information.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma with a college or university undergraduate studies in Architectural or Civil Engineering would be an asset;
  • Proficient in software such as Microsoft Office 365;
  • Strong team player with excellent collaborative skills;
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced multitasking environment with limited supervision.

Language requirements:

Strong proficiency in both written and spoken French and English, with a comprehensive understanding and ability to read and write fluently in both.

Compensation:

The salary is $17.61 per hour, and the work schedule is Monday to Friday for a 35-hour workweek. The Township also offers free access to the gym at the Municipal Sports Dome.

Municipal Planner

The Infrastructure and Planning Department of the Township of Russell is currently seeking a motivated individual for the above-mentioned position.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Infrastructure and Planning, the Planner is responsible for processing requests related to zoning amendments, site plans, subdivision plans, and drafting relevant planning and development policies. This role ensures that safety, quality, and efficiency are upheld throughout the planning process and that on-going projects are monitored. Additionally, the Planner is responsible for preparing reports, following up on internal and external communications related to the projects, as well as preparing research projects.

The Planner works with other professional disciplines and municipal authorities to deliver high-quality services to our clients and consultants and will represent the Planning Department at various committees on issues related to planning.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary education in Planning, Geography, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a municipal or private environment in the field of urban planning.
  • Member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and set priorities effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, research, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work well in a team environment.
  • Able to maintain confidential information.

Language requirements:

Excellent proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in both French and English.

Compensation:

The salary, based on a 35-hour workweek, is set between $73,504 and $91,749 per year and includes an excellent benefits package, a pension plan, and free access to the gym at the Municipal Sports Dome.
