Administrative Assistant — Fire, Public Safety and Enforcement

The township of Russell is looking for a mature, motivated and bilingual individual for the above-mentioned position.

Reporting directly to the director of public safety and enforcement, the administrative assistant will also service the administrative requirements of both the Embrun and Russell fire and emergency services.

Duties include:

  • Provide administrative support for tasks such as writing, reviewing and translating correspondence and reports, data entry, coding invoices, file filing and providing customer service.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the municipal emergency management plan and related activities.
  • In the event of a municipal emergency, must be available to work extended hours outside of the normal workweek.
  • During an emergency, will act as scribe for the Director of Public Safety and Enforcement and/or other duties related to the emergency.
  • Some receptionist duties may be required.

Skills, Competencies, and Knowledge:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in an administrative role;
  • Post-secondary education in a general office administration program or related field;
  • Ability to produce clear and concise reports, in both French and English;
  • Advanced note taking skills.
  • Some experience in customer service;
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point);
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles;
  • Organizational and time management abilities;
  • Ability to work under pressure.

The non-graduate educator will be responsible for delivering an educational program including activities that are geared toward children's development, their health, their security and their well-being.

Please include all current certification including first aid/c.p.r. and valid and negative criminal record check - vulnerable sector (within six months). Candidates must be 18 years or older.

Compensation: the salary, based on a 40-hour work week is between $15.35 and $17.32 per hour and includes an excellent benefit package and pension plan.

Junior Planner

Position Overview: Under the direction of the Planning, Building and Economic Development Director, the candidate person will carry out a variety of tasks related to the urban planning, including the communication of information and technical advice to requests from the public concerning requests for information on different properties, minor variances, severances, rezoning applications. The junior planner will assist the building officials with the approval of site plans related to the building permit application.

Skills, Competencies, and Knowledge:

  • A college or university degree in the field of urban planning, geography or law;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the municipal or private sector;
  • A working knowledge of the Planning Act, by-laws and zoning bylaws is an asset;
  • Ability to work efficiently under time restraints as well as communicate in a professional manner.

Municipal Planner

The Planning department of the Township of Russell is currently seeking a motivated individual for the above-mentioned position. Under the direction of the Planning, Building and Economic Development Director, the Planner will be responsible for processing requests related to zoning amendment, site plan and plans of subdivision and drafting of relevant planning development policies. The candidate will ensure that safety, quality and efficiency are respected in the planning process and monitor on-going projects. In addition, the Planner will be responsible for preparing reports, follow up on internal and external communications related the projects as well as prepare research projects. The Planner will work with other professional disciplines and municipal authorities to deliver high quality services to our clients and consultants. The candidate will also represent the Planning Department at various committees on issues related to planning.

Skills, Competencies, and Knowledge:

  • A post-secondary education in Planning or Geography or other related field.

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a municipal or private environment in the field of urban planning.

  • Member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI).

  • Advanced knowledge of office software, including, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook

  • The ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and be able to set priorities.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, research and report writing skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Must work well in a team environment.

  • Able to maintain confidential information.
