Requirements:

  • Evening & weekend shifts;

Assistant Operator – Arena (Part-time) (Starts in August/September)

Public Works Equipment Operator

Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for operating heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, buildings, and other structures.

The Operator will be responsible for performing the following duties but is not limited to:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes and loaders to excavate materials and to construct and maintain gravel and asphalt roads, parking lots, drainage systems, sidewalk and signage during construction and related activities;
  • Inspect and report on the condition of traffic and directional signage and bridges, and drainage systems and lighting;
  • Operate heavy equipment to repair, resurface roads during road construction and/or repair;
  • Operate heavy equipment to provide snow removal and ice control on all municipal roads and parking lots;
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment and perform manual tasks related to maintenance and operations of roads and drainage system.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Completion of secondary school education;
  • 3 years of experience in heavy equipment operations including loading, unloading and snow removal experience;
  • Must be able to work different work schedules and/or work irregular shifts (summer and winter) as well be available 24/7 (On-call) during winter snow maintenance and removal period;
  • Must reside within a 30-minute range of the Municipal garage to respond to the minimum required response time during the winter snow maintenance and removal period;
  • Possess a DZ License;
  • Completion of apprenticeship program or industry courses in heavy equipment operating combined with on-the-job training;
  • Certifications in Winter Patrol and/or any equivalent snow driving school, in road construction and/or road management would be an asset;
  • A knowledge of mechanics and welding would be an asset.

Language requirements:

Proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in both French and English.

Compensation:

The salary, based on a 40 hour workweek, is set between $60,405 and $75,378 per year and includes a benefit package, a pension plan and free access to the gym at the Municipal Sports Dome.

Manager of Recreational Programming

The Manager of Recreational Programming is responsible for providing leadership and oversight across all community recreation programming and facility use activities. Reporting to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery and continuous improvement of aquatic, ice, and various recreational programs within our organization that meet the diverse needs of the community. The Manager will play a key role in translating strategic direction into operational plan providing leadership, guidance, and support to each coordinator while ensuring all programs run efficiently, meet organizational standards, and align with our goals for participant engagement, satisfaction and community wellness objectives.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience);
  • 5+ years of experience in program management or coordination, preferably in a recreational or community setting;
  • Proven experience in managing teams, including mentoring and performance management;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities;
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations specific to aquatic and ice programs;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and program management software. Experience in Cascades would be an asset;
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with diplomacy and professionalism;
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain);
  • Smart Serve certification would be an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in budgeting and financial management of programs;
  • Knowledge of best practices in program development and evaluation;
  • Experience with public speaking or presenting to community groups;
  • Leadership training or certifications (e.g., in management, coaching, or conflict resolution).

Administrative Assistant – Parks and Recreation Department

Reporting to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the incumbent is responsible for providing administrative support and coordinating public relations, research and analysis activities for the Director and Daycare Services.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • College level training in Office Technology and/or Public Administration or equivalent;
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in Administrative Support;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint;
  • Translate and prepare documents for printing in both languages;
  • Knowledge of InDesign, Univerus and Cascades software is an asset;
  • Excellent Administrative and organizational skills and abilities to manage various projects;

Daycare Team Lead (Full-Time) - St. Mother Teresa Daycare

The Parks and Recreation Department of the Township of Russell is currently seeking a motivated individual to fill the above-mentioned position.

Reporting to the Daycare Supervisor, the Daycare Team Lead implements an educational program of activities aimed at the overall development of the children in their care, ensures the health, safety and well-being of the children and performs various duties related to their functions. The Team Lead must establish and ensure the quality of care in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act and the Ministry of Education.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Post-secondary education  in Early Childhood Educator or equivalent;
  • Member of the College of Early Childhood Educator;
  • Two (2) years of experience in staff management;
  • Valid and Negative Criminal Record Check - Vulnerable Sector (within six months);
  • Up-to-date First-Aid certification (CPR Level C).

Daycare Program Assistant (Contract until August 2026)

Reporting to the Daycare Supervisor, the Program Assistant supports the planning and delivery of children's activity programs designed to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical and emotional development, and performs a variety of related duties.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Diploma of Collegial Studies in Early Childhood Education or Child Care Education or equivalent an asset;
  • Valid and Negative Criminal Record Check - Vulnerable Sector (within six months);
  • Hold a valid Level C CPR and First Aid certification.

Language requirements:

Excellent proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing of English. French an asset.

Compensation:

Daycare Cook

The Cook, under the supervision of the Daycare Manager, will be responsible for planning and developing balanced menus and snacks, preparing full meals, shopping, storing food and maintenance of the kitchen. The Cook can replace childcare staff on occasion.

Primary Activities:

  • Prepare nutritious and well-balanced daily meals for children, in accordance with planned menus.
  • Make any necessary menu changes or substitutions to accommodate special needs and food allergies (anaphylactic).
  • Make sure that the kitchen and food storage are clean and properly arranged at all times.
  • Assure the safety in the kitchen environment.
  • Plan menus and determine size of food portions.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Secondary school diploma plus vocational training in meal preparation cooking paired with a minimum of one year of experience in a similar position (daycare, hospital, elderly residence).
  • Food Safety Training Attestation (mandatory).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Up to date First Aid certification (CPR Level C).
  • Up to date immunization record.
  • Valid and Negative Criminal Record Check - Vulnerable Sector (within six months).
  • Job that requires good physical fitness.
  • The incumbent must be organized, creative and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Language requirements:

Excellent proficiency in French (verbal and written). English is an asset.
