From June 16 to August 21, hobbyist, amateur, and professional photographers were invited to submit their images for the Township of Russell Photo Exhibition with the theme “Stillness.” This year was a huge success, receiving over 100 submissions from our community and beyond!

Autumn in the Country logoYou are invited to join us for the unveiling of the winning photographs from this year’s Township of Russell Photo Contest and Expo!
  • Date: Saturday, September 16, 2023
  • Time: 11:45 a.m.
  • Location: Autumn in the Country Arts Festival at the Russell Fairgrounds

After the unveiling, stop by our booth from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. to see a display of some of the contest submissions. Will you recognize where the photos were taken?

During the Autumn in the Country Arts Festival, we invite you to take a self-guided studio tour to visit artists in action as they hold live demonstrations and technical tips and tricks. Stop by the Maker’s Market to see the incredible talent of local artists and artisans for that perfect piece for your home. From 4:00 p.m. on, enjoy a cocktail mixer, live painting competition and live music. For more information on Autumn in the Country, visit www.autumninthecountry.com.

The Photo Expo jury, consisting of local photographers Jean Paul Deveau, Roland Piette and Christina Stapper faced a challenging task this year. With an impressive surge in both the quantity and quality of photo submissions, their deliberation to select the best entries was no easy feat and 7 submissions were also given special mentions. The exceptional visual narratives captured within each photograph truly showcased the immense talent within the photography community.

The Photo Contest and Expo is a partnership with the Russell Agricultural Society and the Township of Russell. Winning photographs from the Contest and Expo will be later displayed as public artwork along the recreational trail, starting at 901 Notre-Dame in Embrun. A special thanks to the School of the Photographic Arts (SPAO) for sponsoring additional prizes for each winner as well as 8 80 Cities for supporting this event.
