April is Autism Awareness Month
April is Autism Awareness Month in our community and around the world.
Meet Russell resident Rachel Armstrong and her family. Diagnosed with Rubenstein-Taybi Syndrome (affecting approximately 1 in 125,000 births) and autism type 2, Rachel requires gentle, sensory-based approaches to support her in managing social interactions, communication, and daily routines. Organizations like Regroupement/Group Autism(E) Prescott-Russell help her and other people with autism integrate into our community.
Rachel’s love of butterflies has inspired a partnership between her family, Glassworks for Good, and Café Bon Vivant. Metamorphosis II and III will be on display at the café to promote autism awareness until April 30. All funds raised from the sale of the two mosaic glass pieces will be donated to Regroupement Autism(E).

How can you honour Autism Awareness Month? By participating in activities that promote understanding and acceptance of autism:
- Wear Blue: Show your support by wearing blue, the primary colour associated with autism awareness.
- Support Organizations: Contribute to organizations like Regroupement Autism(E) by participating in their events or fundraising efforts.
- Share Information: Spread accurate information about autism and its impact through social media, community events, and educational resources.
- Engage in Advocacy: Join advocacy networks and speak up for policies and programs that support autistic people and their families.
- Educate Others: Share your knowledge about autism with schools, workplaces, and communities to help reduce stigma and promote inclusion.
Through actions like these, you can help make our community a more inclusive and accepting place for autistic individuals and their families.
