Automated Waste Collection Starts Next Week
A reminder that starting January 5, 2026, waste collection in Russell Township will be fully automated. Residents are reminded to use their black bin only – loose garbage bags will no longer be collected. Collection will remain weekly on your regularly scheduled day.
How to use your bin:
- Place the bin with wheels away from the road.
- Keep it clear of other bins or obstacles to ensure pickup.
- You can put multiple bags inside the bin as long as they fit.
In November, every household received a new 120-litre black bin delivered to their residence. These bins automate garbage collection in the same manner as the green bin. Residents interested in a larger 240-litre black bin option can contact the Infrastructure Department. Remember that the usage of the green bin will reduce your solid waste.
Collection Tips:
- Position your bin like your green bin, with wheels facing away from the street.
- Leave at least 2 feet (60 cm) of space between your bins, recycling boxes, or other obstacles to allow the truck to pick up your waste safely.
