Extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death. Seniors, young children, and those taking certain medications are particularly at-risk during heat waves. Call or visit family, friends and neighbours to make sure they are okay, especially isolated adults and seniors, who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, wear light-coloured clothing, and stay cool during the heat wave.
You can also drop-in for a public swim at the Russell Centennial Pool (closed July 1) or stop by the Splash Pad at Yahoo Park (2 Marcel Street, Embrun). It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pets are not allowed near the public pool or splash pad.
For more information on precautions you can take to stay safe during the heat wave, visit the Eastern Ontario Health Unit’s website.
