Mayor Tarnowski recognized and presented certificates to local teens (Erika Pearson, Tristan Kemp, Emma Desnoyers, and Anabelle Bouchard) in recognition of their participation in the “Mayor for a Day” initiative, developed by the Teen Advisory Committee with the support of Councillor Lisa Deacon. The initiative provided participants with a valuable opportunity to develop a greater understanding of municipal governance, engage directly with members of Council and staff, and gain firsthand exposure to the functions and operations of local government.
Recreation Complex Operational Update (Item 11a)
Council approved a 5% increase to ice rental fees, effective June 1, 2026.
The Municipal Facilities Allocation Policy is under review to ensure it aligns with the new Recreation Complex. The review will focus on fair and equitable access for all user groups, as well as clear, consistent, and transparent allocation decisions.
Administration is developing a sponsorship and partnership strategy to support the Recreation Complex. This strategy includes naming rights opportunities, in-facility and community advertising, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
Parks, Recreation Master Plan 2026 (Item 11f)
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan 2026 was presented by Expedition Management Consulting Ltd. The plan will help guide future planning, investment, and service priorities for parks, recreation, and culture across the Township.
Development of the plan began in June 2025 and continued through April 2026.
It was informed by a strong public engagement process, including community surveys, community consultations, and meetings with municipal staff. These engagement activities ensured that input from residents, user groups, and internal departments was considered when identifying needs, priorities, and future directions for parks and recreation services.
Residents are encouraged to consult the plan online to learn more about the vision and priorities that will help shape parks, recreation, and culture services across the Township in the years ahead. It is an exciting roadmap for the future, with many great projects and opportunities to come for our community.
