This year is particularly special: we are marking the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag, first raised in 1975 at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Today, this flag is a powerful symbol of the Franco-Ontarian history, pride and future.
In Embrun, the Francophonie Monument Committee and more than 1,000 students from the three French-language schools in Embrun will gather for a festive tintamarre (noise parade), dressed in green and white and equipped with noisy instruments. Escorted by firefighters, the Ontario Provincial Police, mascots, and community partners, they will depart from École secondaire d’Embrun, pass in front of the arena, and parade to the Monument of the Francophonie to proudly express their Franco-Ontarian pride.
Dignitaries, community representatives, and members of the public will also join this wonderful celebration. The entire community is invited to take part and support this event, which will make the Franco-Ontarian identity resonate with pride.
We would like to inform the community that there will be a lot of noise on the morning of September 25, and we ask everyone to be cautious on the roads. We encourage everyone to join this joyful celebration and to proudly wear green and white colours!
The official raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag will take place at around 11 a.m. at École secondaire catholique d’Embrun.
*Please note that in case of rain, the event will be postponed to Friday, September 26, 2025.
