Honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
More
On September 30, Canadians come together to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, while reflecting on the lasting impacts of these institutions. Listening, learning, and taking action remain essential steps toward reconciliation.
This year, for the first time, the Township will raise the Survivor’s Flag on September 24, 2025, until October 1, 2025. The flag is a powerful symbol of remembrance and commitment to reconciliation. Learn more here: The Survivors’ Flag - NCTR
How You Can Show Support
- Wear Orange: Honour Survivors by wearing an orange shirt, ideally purchased from Indigenous-owned businesses.
- Attend Events: Join local ceremonies or walks.
- Learn & Reflect: Read Indigenous authors, watch documentaries, or visit the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. Visit the Embrun or Russell branches of the Township of Russell Public library to see their special display.
- Support Communities: Donate to Indigenous-led initiatives or support Indigenous artists and businesses.
- Pause & Remember: Take a moment of silence for the children who never returned home and the Survivors who share their truths.
- Commit Year-Round: Reconciliation is a continuous journey—keep learning and taking action beyond September 30.
