Message From the Mayor – April 16, 2026
Dear Residents,
As spring arrives, road and infrastructure work is ramping up across our municipality.
I know construction season can be frustrating. Detours, delays, and temporary disruptions affect daily routines, access to local businesses, and the schedules families rely on. Those challenges are real, and I ask for your patience as this important work moves forward.
I want residents to be assured that this work is necessary. These projects are not being undertaken casually or without careful consideration. They are guided by the Township’s long-term Transportation and Water and Wastewater Master Plans, as well as regular road assessments, traffic studies, expert advice, technical review, and best practices.
Every decision is made with public safety, community well-being, and careful stewardship of taxpayer dollars at the centre. This work is also being supported by our partners at the County and by record-breaking provincial funding, helping the Township deliver these necessary projects in a smart, timely, and fiscally responsible way. Just as importantly, this work is being planned and carried out as efficiently as possible to minimize disruption to residents, businesses, and daily life.
This year, residents will see significant activity, including work at Notre-Dame Street and Ste-Marie/St-Pierre Roads as part of the continued multi-year upgrade of Notre-Dame Street and the infrastructure beneath it, as well as the construction of a new roundabout at Route 300 and St-Guillaume Road. Closures and detours will be necessary during some phases of this work, but every effort is being made to complete it as efficiently and thoughtfully as possible.
I encourage you to stay informed throughout construction by subscribing to email notices at www.russell.ca/subscribe, following project pages such as www.russell.ca/NotreDameSt, and consulting Municipal 511 for the most up-to-date information on detours and traffic impacts.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. I know the inconvenience will be real, but this work is necessary and is being done with care so that our community benefits for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Mike Tarnowski, MBA
Mayor, Russell Township
