New Pumper/Rescue Truck for Station 12
PRESS RELEASE
For immediate distribution
January 8, 2026 – Russell Township Fire Services Station 12 is proud to introduce its new Pumper/Rescue fire apparatus. Purchased at a cost of $808,796, this modern apparatus will enhance emergency response capabilities and support the continued safety of both residents and firefighters. The new unit replaces two aging apparatuses that have reached the end of their service life, helping to maintain a reliable and efficient fleet.
On January 6, 2026, firefighters from Station 11 and Station 12 gathered to welcome the new apparatus with a traditional “Push-In Ceremony.” This longstanding fire service tradition dates back to the 1800s, when horse-drawn fire engines were pushed back into the station after returning from a call. This tradition is closely linked to our Fire Department’s history, including the Silsby steam-powered horse-drawn fire engine from 1915 and the Soda Pump wheeled fire extinguisher from 1919. Today, the ceremony represents teamwork, respect for our history, and dedication to the community. Mayor and Members of Council were present to share in this important milestone.
“I was proud to stand alongside our firefighters and Council colleagues to welcome this important addition to our emergency services. It was encouraging to see members from both Station 11 and Station 12 present for the Push-In Ceremony — a strong show of support that reflects the dedication and pride within our Fire Services. This new truck represents Council’s continued commitment to investing in public safety and ensuring our firefighters have the tools they need to serve the community effectively. On behalf of the Township, I thank all our firefighters for their professionalism and service to the community,” shared Mayor Mike Tarnowski.
We would also like to recognize and thank Battleshield Industries Ltd., based in Vars, Ontario, for manufacturing this new Pumper/Rescue. Their craftsmanship and commitment to quality have helped ensure that our firefighters are equipped with a safe, reliable, and modern emergency response vehicle.
“Council continues to demonstrate strong support and investment in our Fire Services and our growing community, for which we are sincerely grateful,” said Fire Chief Brian McBain. “The advanced technology in this new apparatus enhances firefighter safety while ensuring we continue to provide a high standard of service to our residents.”
We thank Council, Township staff, and our dedicated firefighters for their continued commitment to public safety. The new Pumper/Rescue is now in service and will be responding to emergencies throughout the community.
