Embrun, Ontario, April 2, 2024 — Mayor Pierre Leroux has officially submitted his resignation from his position at Russell Township, effective April 19, 2024. He will be stepping down to undertake the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) with The Nation Municipality.

Leroux served as a dedicated member of the Russell Township Council since December 2010 where he served as Councillor for 4 years, followed by over 9 years as Mayor. His dedication and commitment to the betterment of Russell Township have left a significant mark on our community. His leadership, vision, and tireless efforts have significantly contributed to the growth and prosperity of our Township over the years. The administration thanks him for his time and commitment over the years and wish him the best in his new position.

In light of his resignation and the upcoming transition, he will not be attending the April 8th Council meeting out of respect for the process and to ensure a seamless transition. His focus in the remaining weeks will be on ensuring a smooth handover of information and to fulfill previous commitments.

"As Chief Administrative Officer, I have complete confidence that our administration and Council will come together with unwavering dedication to continue delivering excellence in all our services.” said Richard Godin, “On behalf of the Township, I extend our sincere congratulations to Mayor Leroux on his new appointment at The Nation Municipality. His leadership and vision have been pivotal in guiding our community forward. On a personal note, I extend my deepest gratitude to Mayor Leroux. Working alongside him for the past decade has inspired me to embrace strong and innovative leadership. Thank you, Mr. Mayor!"

Mayor Leroux expressed his gratitude to the residents of Russell Township, stating, “Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the opportunity to serve, for your trust, and for the support that has made my tenure as Mayor an enriching chapter of my life. Russell Township holds a special place in my heart, a beacon of community and connection. I step forward into this new chapter with the lessons learned and friendships forged during my time as your mayor, forever grateful for the journey we’ve shared.”

As Mayor Leroux begins this new chapter in his career, the administration will provide further updates on the transition process and the next steps for Russell Township in the coming days.
