Renovations Begin at the Embrun Station
November 3, 2025 – The Township of Russell and the Board of Directors of the “Société historique d’Embrun”, better known as the Embrun Station Committee, are pleased to announce that following a competitive bidding process, the Township has awarded the construction contract for the exterior renovation and structural reinforcement of the Embrun Station to Bricon Company.
Work has now begun and is expected to be completed by March 2026. After that, the project will focus on the creation of the museum.
Through the partnership between the Township of Russell and the “Société historique d’Embrun”, the Embrun Station will be restored, and the original warehouse of the Embrun train station will be transformed into a seasonal museum, open from spring to fall. This museum will celebrate the unique heritage of our region and bring the community together to highlight and preserve the history of the former village of Embrun and the surrounding area.
This project would not have been possible without the support of the community, local businesses, residents, and the two main partners, Canadian Heritage and Caisse Desjardins. Together, they have helped move this project forward.
The project is the result of the hard work of the Embrun Station Committee, which, over two years ago, incorporated as the “Société historique d’Embrun”, a non-profit organization, and also registered as a federal charity. Its main objectives are as follows:
- To create a museum in the former Embrun train station by gathering and preserving historical artifacts;
- To promote the history of Embrun and the region by highlighting the francophone heritage of our community;
- To work closely with the Township of Russell and the Embrun Station to organize activities related to regional heritage.
