Support for Well Owners
Our region has recently been experiencing low well water levels, caused by a combination of limited rainfall and high temperatures. We know this has been especially difficult for some residents who rely on private wells and may be struggling to maintain a steady water supply.
The Township has two options available for residents, farmers and business owners whose wells are not providing enough water and wish to obtain water from the Township.
Bulk Water
There are two options available for bulk water transport:
- Residents, farmers or business owners who have their own water transportation may pick up bulk water at the bulk water station. The Township will invoice the property owner directly for this water.
- The Township supplies water to a transporter and bills them for it. They deliver it to addresses in the Township of Russell. The transporter bills the customer directly for the water and transportation costs. Owner is responsible to contact transporter.
For both options, please call the Infrastructure Service at 613-443-1747 for more information and to schedule a pickup.
Municipal Water Filing Station
During water shortages, residents may bring containers to fill at 215 Industriel Street in Embrun.
There is a maximum of 20L per container.
Please call 613-443-3066, extension 8 before coming to ensure we have someone on site.
Access to Shower Facility
We are offering access to showers at the Embrun Arena (6 Blais Street) and the Russell Arena (1084 Concession Street) Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Arrangements can be made outside these hours if needed.
We ask residents to reserve their time slot by contacting us by phone at 613-443-9272 or by email at recreation.loisirs@russell.ca.
Take the Survey
If you rely on a private well, your input is vital. South Nation Conservation is asking residents to report any well problems — like supply issues, or wells running dry — through a short online survey.
Your feedback helps identify the areas most affected by drought and supports planning and response efforts.
Well Owners: What You Can Do
- Help conserve water — refrain from non-essential water uses (e.g., car washing, lawn watering).
- Never pour water down a well — this can cause damage or contamination.
- If you're experiencing well issues, contact a licensed well contractor.
- For well safety or emergency concerns, contact the Ontario Wells Help Desk.
- Consider temporary options like bulk water haulage or storage tanks if needed.
