Voting Dates and Times

The Voting Period for the 2026 Municipal Elections is October 21 to 26, 2026.

You can vote anytime online or by phone starting October 21 at 9:00 a.m. ending Monday, October 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. 

A Voter Information Letter will be mailed to all eligible and registered electors. This letter contains all the information required to vote, including your unique Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Haven’t received your Voter Information Letter by October 9, 2026? Contact the Clerk’s Department right away at 613-443-3066 or elections@russell.ca.

Update Your Voter Information

Do you want voting on election day to be quick and easy? Update your information in advance! Visit Elections Ontario’s Voter Registration service at www.registertovoteon.ca, to confirm, update or add your information for municipal and provincial elections in Ontario until August 12, 2026.

Your school support matters. Make sure you’re ready to vote in 2026!

School support designations should be reviewed and, if needed, updated by June 1, 2026, to be accurately included on the Preliminary List of Elections for the elections on October 26, 2026. To update your designation, visit mpac.ca/schoolsupport .

After June 1st for School Boards and after August 12, 2026, to confirm, update or add your voter information, please fill in the form Application to Amend Voters' List and submit to elections@russell.ca along with a piece of ID (as per list below). You may also bring it in person to Town Hall Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Who can vote?

You can vote in a municipal election if, on voting day, you are:

  • a resident of the Township of Russell, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • at least 18 years old; and
  • not prohibited from voting by law.

Who cannot vote?

You cannot vote in a municipal election if you are:

  • a person serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
  • a corporation;
  • a person acting as executor or trustee or in another representative capacity;
  • a person convicted of a corrupt practice described in section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996

Ways to Vote

You can vote from anywhere by either:

  • Internet: Vote online using your Voter Information Letter
  • Telephone: Vote by phone using your Voter Information Letter
  • You may also vote in person by Internet or Telephone at the Voter Help Centres: located at 717 Notre-Dame Street, Embrun, and on Voting Day only, at a 2nd location to be determined in Russell.
    If you choose to vote in person, you must bring your Voter Information Letter and valid identification.

If you require assistance or information to vote, you can visit our Voter Help Centres, located at Town Hall (717 Notre-Dame Street, Embrun) and on Voting Day only, at a 2nd location to be determined in Russell. They will be open to the public on the following dates and times:

Requesting a change to the voters’ list or a new Voter Information Letter?

You’ll need to provide identification and proof of your eligibility to vote (address, date of birth, and Canadian citizenship). Anyone asking for amendments to the Voters' List or requiring the issuance of a new Voter Information Letter shall be able to prove his or her identity and his or her qualification to vote including a proof of residence, renting or ownership, date of birth and even Canadian citizenship. 

You must present one of the following documents showing your name and address.

Document showing campus residence issued by the office or officials responsible for student residence at a post-secondary institution
  • CNIB card or card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities
  • Hospital records showing a person’s name and home address
  • Letter of Confirmation of Residence
  • Utility bill (hydro, water, gas, telephone, cable TV, public utilities commission)
  • Property tax assessment or bill from a municipality in Ontario
  • Any other document showing both your name and home address issued by:
    • a municipality
    • a government agency
    • or certified by a court in Ontario
    • a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada)
