Roads Reopen: Craig, Mill & Parklands
After months of construction and a summer of detours, we are delighted to announce that Craig Street, Mill Street and Parkland Avenue are once again fully open to traffic! While there are still some touch-ups to be done in the coming days to complete the work, the road and lane closures have ended. We greatly appreciate your patience throughout this extensive yet essential project to maintain our aging infrastructure and continue to offer services to our residents.
The storm sewer replacement project on Craig Street in Russell began on June 5th, 2023, with an estimated completion of the end of November. We are happy that, despite some delays in materials causing a delayed start, this project will end on schedule.
Budgeted at $2,453,781.44, this project is part of the Township of Russell Infrastructure improvement program, as defined in the Stormwater Management Master Planning Study. Replacing these sewers has simplified the storm sewer system by combining the double storm sewer systems on either side of the road into one single storm sewer. This reduces the number of active outlets to the Castor River and allows for increased pipe sizing, mitigating surcharging of the existing system.
