At last night's meeting, Council approved an approximate salary increase of 20% for our Graduate and Non-Graduate Educators. While the Township of Russell has no obligation to provide such services, Council feels the support of our residents in this area is an invaluable necessity for the continued growth of our community. Subject: Township of Russell Welcomes Scottish Curling Teams

 

Dear Residents:

Next week, five teams from Scotland will visit the Township of Russell community to compete in the Strathcona Cup.

The Strathcona Cup is the world’s oldest international men’s curling bonspiel, which only takes place once every five years. This year, the month-long curling bonspiel brings 60 curlers from Scotland to play against Canadians in curling centres across Canada.

  1. Environmental Advisory Committee (4 Positions)
  2. Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee (5 Positions)
  3. Seniors Advisory Committee (7 positions)
  4. Community Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (8 positions)

Requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or over;
  2. Must be a Canadian Citizen;
  3. Must be a resident of the Township of Russell;

Due to truck breakdowns, many streets were missed during yesterdays waste and recycling collection on January 3, 2023.

Avoid Road Travel Today

Please avoid all non-essential road travel today.

The winter storm is ongoing. Driving conditions are challenging due to blowing and drifting snow.

Our snowplows operators are clearing roads as quickly as possible, following routes designed to provide the best overall service for the community. Thank you for your patience.

Severe Storm Updates - December 23

There is a severe storm affecting our community. Our Fire and Infrastructure teams are responding to issues as quickly as possible.

Avoid all non-essential travel at this time.

Some residents are without power. Utility companies have their crews working hard to resolve the issue - please follow your hydro service provider for updates.

There are power lines, utility poles, and trees down in many areas of the community. We are working with local and regional emergency services to get these hazards...

New Snow Disposal Facility

The Township of Russell’s new snow disposal facility is ready for the winter season! 

The new site includes a snow pad, an area for trucks, and a melt pond. It is surrounded by a berm to keep the site discreet and blend with the surrounding area. Landscaping, including trees, will be done in the Spring. 

This $2,217,000 construction project is part of the Township’s 2018-2022 Strategic Plan

Although it is a big investment, it aligns with our priority to reduce our environmental impact....

Reminders for the Holiday Storm

Environment Canada is forecasting another large snowfall (with icy conditions) over the next few days.

Will you be hosting guests for the holidays? Please park all vehicles in your driveway/garage so that your street can be cleared by snowplow operators. If your garage and driveway are full, you can also park at the following locations anytime (day or night) without any worries of receiving a ticket between December 23 and December 27:

Environment Canada is forecasting a large amount of snowfall on Friday.

Help our snowplows operators get your streets cleared after the storm by:

  1. parking in your driveway/garage during the day on Friday.
  2. moving your basketball net off the street, and into your driveway or garage.
  3. putting your garbage bins inside your driveway on garbage day (not on the street, shoulder, or sidewalk).

Stiver Park Project

In the fall of 2020, a small group of community members created the "Stiver Park Project" to bring the community together and enhance Stiver Park.

In less than 2 years, the Stiver Park Project collected nearly $15,000 between fundraising campaigns and local grants. Two mature maple trees were planted, a cement pad poured, and a sail shade structure installed; all paid for by community fundraising efforts. Remember that not all disabilities are immediately noticeable, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, and brain injuries.
