The Township of Russell unveiled the first plaque in Marionville as part of its Historical Plaque Program on Wednesday, recognizing the Sainte Thérèse D’Avila Church.

Jonathan Pitre Park is Now Open!

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of Jonathan Pitre Park this morning.

Members of Council, staff, special guests, and residents helped celebrate the opening of the new park located at 150 Sportsplex Road, near the Sports Dome.

The new park includes an accessible play structure, swings, boat structure, and exercise equipment. There are also tennis and basketball courts. It’s the first accessible park in the Township of Russell.

Paving Finished on St Thomas Road

St Thomas Road from Notre Dame to Route 300 has a fresh coat of pavement. This 1.8-kilometer segment was part of the 2022 Budget at $189,000.

It is a popular route for commuters accessing Highway 417 to our growing community.

Youth Explore the Township of Russell’s Trade Industry

Last Friday, students explored the Township of Russell’s trade industry as part of a “Skilled Trades Discovery Day.” 

The Economic Development team welcomed 75 high school students from Embrun and Russell to the 417 Industrial Park in Vars, the Township of Russell’s fast-growing industrial hub.

Getting the Arena Ice Ready

It takes a few weeks and a long checklist to get the arenas each winter season.

Did you know?

  • The temperature outside must be below 25 degrees to make arena ice. 

  • The slab base gets painted white.

  • The rink gets flooded with treated hot water for a clearer and harder ice surface.

New Tankers for Fire and Rescue Services

The Township of Russell’s Fire and Rescue Services has two new tanker trucks. 

The identical tankers will replace the Township’s former tanker trucks, which were 22 years-old and nearing the end of their life span.  

The purchase was part of the Capital Projects for 2021 and 2022. The two new tankers total $900,000.

It is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

We encourage you to wear orange today to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.

Public Skating Begins

Sharpen your skates!  After weeks of preparation, the Embrun and Russell arenas are ready for the winter season.  

Our free public skating and shinny hockey sessions begin on September 24. Find the weekly schedule on our Arenas and Skating webpage.  

The outdoor rinks are not open yet for the winter season. 

To rent ice time, view ice availability online and email the Recreation Coordinator with your preferred time slots.

Bi Visibility Day

September 23rd is Bi Visibility Day. Today we celebrate the bisexual community and bring awareness to their struggles. Bisexuality describes one who is attracted to the same sex as well as the opposite sex.

Recreational Trail Closure on Friday, September 23 — Valoris to Consession

This Friday, September 23, 2022, the Recreation Trail will be closed for repairs between Valoris Street and Concession Street. The work is expected to be finished by the end of the day; please avoid this section in the meantime.

As many remember, this section was closed earlier this year for fiber optic cabling installation. The contractor is returning to fix some damages to the trail caused by the construction.
