Waste Collection Cancelled January 17, 2022 Due to Winter Storm

There will be no curbside garbage or recycling collection today, Monday, January 17, 2021. Collection will remain as scheduled for the rest of the week. Next Monday, January 24, 2021, two bags of garbage will be allowed to compensate for today’s cancelled collection, with no tag needed for the second bag.

This cancellation is for the safety of residents and collection crews during the major winter storm.

Five positions available on the Russell Namesake Rededication Committee

After community debate over the Township’s current namesake, Peter Russell, the Township of Russell will be keeping its name but rededicating the honour of the name “Russell” to a new candidate who better represents the community’s ideals. COVID-19: Town Hall and Municipal Facilities Closed Due to Province’s Omicron Restrictions

As of Wednesday, January 5, 2022, Town Hall and our satellite offices are closed to the public until further notice. In-person services are through appointment only. Staff are available by phone and email.

Indoor recreation facilities including the sports dome, arenas, and community centres, are closed to the public until further notice.

Outdoor rinks are not yet open for the winter season.

As we approach Christmas 2021, I want to take a moment to reflect on how lucky we are in Russell Township. All of us can agree that these past 20 or so months have been unprecedented.  Our routines and traditions have been turned upside down, and we needed to adjust accordingly; new work models, new business models, new schooling models, overall new life models, but this has not stopped us!

Tree Removal Near Embrun Roundabout

Starting the week of December 20th, residents may see some tree removal activity on the small municipal lot of greenspace next to the roundabout in Embrun. This is a former section of the recreation trail.

A contractor will perform the work, which includes removing trees and notching stumps, over the next few weeks.

Richard Godin has been appointed as the interim Chief Administrative Officer for the Township of Russell effective January 5, 2022.

Township of Russell Council appointed the interim CAO at the regular meeting of December 20, 2021 following the imminent departure for retirement of current CAO, Jean Leduc.

Russell Fire Department Awarded Critical Lifesaving Resources from Firehouse Subs

Last night, our 2022 budget was approved with a 2.5% tax increase, representing a $44.53 tax increase in 2022 for the average household. A total of $356,997 will be generated from this taxation increase.

Benches in Embrun removed for repainting

As part of our goal to keep our streets beautiful, some benches are getting a new coat of paint!

Over the next few weeks, 17 benches in village of Embrun will be removed. These benches will be repainted over the winter and reinstalled in the spring.

As repainting is part of our warranty agreement, this initiative is at no extra cost to residents.
