Hazardous Waste Day Cancelled May 1, 2021

The Hazardous Waste Day event on May 1st, 2021 is cancelled following the Province’s COVID-19 stay-at-home order in effect until May 6, 2021 to avoid mass gathering at the municipal garage. The next hazardous waste event is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th, 2021. To keep the two hazardous waste events budgeted by Council for 2021, there will be a 2-day event on October 15th and 16th 2021. View the Event Calendar for all special waste collections.

Coming This Spring: 40km/h in Residential Zones

Council has approved to reduce the speed limit to 40 km/h within residential zones. Starting in late spring, each subdivision will have signs at their entrance and exit to designate the area as a 40km/h zone. Speed reductions will only be in effect once the signs are installed. As you know, the Province has enacted stronger measures to help combat the Covid-19 virus.  With a second state of emergency declaration, and a stay-at-home order put in place, we all need to do our part.


As Premiere Ford mentioned, approximately 30% of Ontario residents are not following the rules. While I have confidence in Russell Township residents, this could possibly represent 6000 people within our own Township that may be putting...

Township Receives Donation of Sanitizer and 16,000 Masks Over the Holidays

The Township of Russell has received a generous donation of hand sanitizer and 16,000 masks on behalf of the local branch of Apex Global Logistics over the holiday season.



This generous donation will help the Township limit the spread of COVID-19 at Town Hall and other municipal facilities through the ongoing pandemic. The Township is also looking into how these resources can be shared with local long-term care facilities.

Avoid Storm Ponds: Warning for Your Health and Safety

Most of the subdivisions in the Township have a pond designed to control storm water. These ponds are not meant for residents to use recreationally. They can be dangerous to your health and safety. 

In the winter, the thickness of the ice changes as it mixes with road salt. Water levels can also change very suddenly.

Please avoid these storm ponds. This includes no skating, sledding, drinking, swimming, or boating at any time of year.

Boil Water Advisory Lifted

December 5th, 2020 6:30p.m.



The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) has lifted the Boil Water Advisory that was issued to all residents of Embrun on Friday, December 4, 2020. Analysis of samples from the Embrun Distribution Drinking Water System confirmed that water in the village is safe for use and consumption.



The EOHU continues to work with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change and the Township of Russell to monitor the situation.

2020 Christmas Parades Cancelled due to COVID-19

Unfortunately, due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in our area, our two Fire Departments have decided to cancel the 2020 Christmas parades in Embrun and Russell. This was a very difficult decision for our Chiefs, but both Fire Departments strongly believe it is the right decision. The Christmas parades will be back and better then ever in 2021!

Malfunctioning Smoke and CO Alarms

The Russell Township Fire Departments have noticed a trend of false smoke and carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms. This seems to be happening in newer homes with new units, even in other areas of the province.



At this time, we cannot pinpoint what is causing these false alarms, but we felt it was necessary to address the matter with our residents. Town Hall Reopens for Some In-Person Services September 8th 2020

The Township of Russell will re-open Town Hall to offer certain in-person services as of Tuesday, September 8th, 2020.



In order to avoid long waiting lines and to ensure physical distancing during this transition, some services will be offered by walk-in while others will remain by appointment only. Water Flow Testing in September 2020

Our Public Utilities crew will be opening up fire hydrants to conduct flow testing of the water distribution system in Embrun throughout the month of September. This testing is done to make sure the system is working optimally.

 

If you turn on your indoor tap and notice discolouration, do not panic. Discolouration is normal and is safe to drink according to the EPA. Let your tap run for a minute, and the discolouration should disappear.

Route 300 Resurfacing Completed

Recreational Trail at Roundabout Closed Starting June 25th 2020

A section of the recreational trail will be closed from Thursday, June 25th to Wednesday, July 8th at the Embrun roundabout (between the section that connects the Notre Dame Street sidewalk and the entrance of Embrun Ford).


This 2-week closure is necessary for the relocation of the recreational trail as part of our Improved Pedestrian Crossing project, which will have flashing beacons to improve pedestrian safety at this intersection.

Waste Limit Returns to One (1) Bag per Household the Week of August 4th 2020

Waste Collection & Bag Limit



Starting the week of August 4th, 2020, the waste limit for Township of Russell residents will return to the regular ONE (1) BAG LIMIT PER HOUSEHOLD. Extra bags at the curb without tags will not be picked up.



The waste limit was temporarily increased to 2 bags per household in March to accommodate our residents during the COVID-19 outbreak. The Township is re-adjusting changes made to municipal services as the Province moves forward with Stage 1 and 2 of re-opening.
