Water Flow Testing in September 2020

Our Public Utilities crew will be opening up fire hydrants to conduct flow testing of the water distribution system in Embrun throughout the month of September. This testing is done to make sure the system is working optimally.

 

If you turn on your indoor tap and notice discolouration, do not panic. Discolouration is normal and is safe to drink according to the EPA. Let your tap run for a minute, and the discolouration should disappear.

Closure of the Michel Malboeuf Tennis Court August 15th-29th

UPDATE - AUGUST 28, 2020 - The closure is extended until September 8, 2020, due to poor weather conditions. The repairs require adequate dry time with no rain. The new reopening date is subject to change if the weather is not cooperative. We thank you for your understanding.

Route 300 Resurfacing Completed

Route 300 is now resurfaced! A double surface treatment was completed 1.4 km east of St-Thomas Road ($120,000). Thank you for your patience during the construction. We look forward to providing progress updates on other 2020 road projects in the coming weeks.

Recreational Trail at Roundabout Closed Starting June 25th 2020

A section of the recreational trail will be closed from Thursday, June 25th to Wednesday, July 8th at the Embrun roundabout (between the section that connects the Notre Dame Street sidewalk and the entrance of Embrun Ford).


This 2-week closure is necessary for the relocation of the recreational trail as part of our Improved Pedestrian Crossing project, which will have flashing beacons to improve pedestrian safety at this intersection.

Waste Limit Returns to One (1) Bag per Household the Week of August 4th 2020

Waste Collection & Bag Limit



Starting the week of August 4th, 2020, the waste limit for Township of Russell residents will return to the regular ONE (1) BAG LIMIT PER HOUSEHOLD. Extra bags at the curb without tags will not be picked up.



The waste limit was temporarily increased to 2 bags per household in March to accommodate our residents during the COVID-19 outbreak. The Township is re-adjusting changes made to municipal services as the Province moves forward with Stage 1 and 2 of re-opening.

Leaf and Yard Waste Pickup Saturday, June 6th 2020

REMINDER: There is a municipal leaf and yard waste pickup on Saturday, June 6th 2020. Make sure to have your bags/bins and bundles at the curb before 7 a.m. to not miss the collection.



Yard waste and leaves must be packaged in paper bags or in reusable garbage containers.



Plastic bags will not be collected with the exception of the BIOSAK.



Bundle and tie branches; length of branches should not exceed 1.2 m (4 feet) & 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter.

Schedule Changes for Victoria Day Weekend 2020

The Township of Russell would like to remind residents of the following schedule changes for Victoria Day on Monday, May 18th 2020:

  • Our offices are closed on Monday, May 18th for Victoria Day. Regular hours of operation return on Tuesday, May 19th.
  • The collection of waste and recycling services will be delayed by one day. See our revised 2020 Waste Collection Calendar.

Flags Half-Mast Tuesday April 28th for Worker's Mourning Day 2020

On Tuesday April 28th 2020, flags on all municipal buildings and locations in the Township of Russell will be at half-mast from sunrise to sunset to mark Workers’ Mourning Day.



This is in pursuant to Section g (i) Special Days under Mandatory Half-Masting of the Half-Masting and Raising of Flags Policy 2016-152.

Township Flags at Half-Mast to Honour Victims in Nova Scotia Shooting

Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux has approved that flags in the Township of Russell will be at half-mast until next Monday, April 27th for all who lost their lives in Nova Scotia’s mass shooting.



Our sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of those killed in this senseless act of violence, including Const. Heidi Stevenson. We mourn for the tragic loss in their community during these difficult times. Our prayers and love go out to those affected,” says Mayor Leroux.
