Site Plan Control and Review Team Applications

What is a Review Team Meeting?
A Review Team meeting is a free virtual consultation for development projects that require Site Plan Control. This meeting gives you a chance to present your conceptual site plan, ask questions, and get helpful comments before you submit your application for Site Plan Control. The Review Team is made up of staff from different departments who take part in the technical review of these applications.
These meetings are held every two weeks and offer a platform to discuss your project and potential challenges that may arise through Site Plan Control. This meeting will help you understand the requirements, policies, and possible issues. Attending a Review Team meeting can help you prepare a stronger application and make the approval process smoother.
If you choose not to attend a Review Team meeting, you may face challenges such as your Site Plan Control application being considered incomplete or needing extra requirements or revisions, which can delay the review and approval process.
What is Site Plan Control?
Site Plan Control is an application required by the Township, under Section 41 of the Planning Act. Site plan control is a tool that is used by the Township to ensure that development is designed in an appropriate manner, is safe and functional, and minimizes potential impacts on neighbouring properties. Site Plan Control also ensures that the Township’s policies and standards for developing land, such as the Zoning By-law and Official Plan, are respected.
Active Site Plan Control applications under review are posted on the Local Development Application webpage, and as required, a sign will be posted on-site as public notification.
You are encouraged to contact the Planning Department to determine if your proposed development requires Site Plan Control, to schedule a Review Team meeting, and to discuss the process and associated fees. Please contact the Planning Department at 613-443-3066 or planning@russell.ca.
